Half-Marathon here I go!

Quick and short post but guess what! I officially signed up for the Scotiabank Waterfront Half-Marathon in October! I am pretty nervous since the furthest I've ran so far is about 16K...but I guess it's still 5 months away so there's still lots of time to train!

Freshii brown rice bowl for lunch on Friday

Friday night's run

Friday's dinner - marinated tofu cube, sauteed spinach, steamed frozen corn and peas

Saturday's run ... along the Lake as well.

On Sunday, Andrei and I decided to go try out Queen's Mother Cafe on Queen Street. I settled on a tofu pad thai...it was ok...a bit too saucy for my taste.

I probably won't be able to stick as closely to my workout routine this week as I would like since my mother's visiting!! But, on the plus side, I will probably be able to post up more posts related to our restaurant adventures :)

New Record!

I felt super lazy last Friday and didn't have the energy to go to the gym or even cook. Solution? Go down the elevators to Taco Del Mar for some vegetarian burrito...Filling? Yes. Worth it? Not so sure...it wasn't bad but there wasn't anything special to it.

Whole wheat tortilla, Rice, Refried Beans, and some Guacamole.

Prior to my weekend run on Saturday, I fueled up big time...

Chocolate Chip Flax Seed Pancakes, Blueberry Greek Yoghurt mixed in with the All Bran cereal, and of course, fruits and coffee on the side :)

I had the intent of running more than 10K but I ended up doing quite a bit more than I anticipated...This was my longest run to date!

I started felt good until about 13.5K in...that's when my legs started to feel tight and my knees started to hurt a bit. But I took it slow the last 3K and finished in a bit over an hour and half.

After the run, I refueled myself up with a chocolate milk protein shake mixed in with fresh strawberries and banana.

This Protein Plus Chocolate milk packs in 30 grams of protein per bottle! I couldn't do the whole bottle so I only mixed half of it and supplemented the rest with a cup of vanilla almond milk. I really found this to be a great post work out drink (with or without blending it with fruits). The taste isn't as chalky as some of the other protein drinks but its got more substance than regular chocolate milk. Give it a shot!

I was pretty pooped after the run...I spent the rest of the afternoon reading in bed...

Now I can't wait for the next weekend to come so I can get cracking on the new book I'm reading!

Pom Goodness

My roommate got me hooked on pomegranates a couple of months back. I didn't want to spend $7 on a cup of pre-picked pomegranate seeds so I use to sit on the couch and pick at each seed one by one by myself...yeah, that took a while.  Until I discovered the trick of getting the seeds out in a bowl of water :)

These pomegranates was a large part of my breakfast this week...

All mixed in together...

For lunch this week, I tried to limit myself to spending nearly $8 on a wrap at Freshii that I could probably recreate for less than half of that price (but it never tastes the same...sigh). So the solution was to make my own tuna salad wrap.

Light Mayo, Dijon Mustard, Light Tuna, Cucumbers, Cherry Tomatoes, and Green Peppers.

Mixed it all together and added in some black pepper...

All ready to go at lunch time! Just added one sliced hard-boiled egg and lettuce and rolled it up!

Looks kind of bland ... but it was actually pretty good and filling. Definitely not as satisfying as the wraps from Freshii but hey, it still made for a good lunch.

This week's exercises have mainly been on the elliptical...

Monday: 10 minutes on the bike, 40 minutes on elliptical
Tuesday: 65 minutes on the elliptical
Wednesday: 45 minutes on the elliptical

Finally went for an outdoor run (first one since the Yonge Street 10K!) today since the weather was finally nice again!

Felt good to be back on the road again :) I also got to sport my awesome new Spibelt. Fanny-pack for runners! :)
